Another year has come and gone

Useless personal stats from this years Gencon...

  • Traveled by car 140 miles between my home on the Southeast side of town to the con.
  • Spent over $300 in the exhibit hall!  (That's a personal record, purchase reviews coming soon).
  • Ran 5 Space Hulk missions, win for the stealers for all the games (It is a 'Desperate battle').
  • Took over 600 pictures, which demonstrated to me that white balance is my enemy!
  • Bolstered my Genestealer forces with 25 additional 1st edition models.  Why oh why paint a mini fluorescent orange??  I could use them as night-lights!

And now Gencon 2010 is a fond memory

Wow...I mean....Wow...

I'm still in a bit of a haze being back to work after 6 day's of knock down, non-stop, awesomesauce flavored fun from 'This guy'!  The events wen't great, the con was great, and I actually bought stuff in the exhibit hall!  (I've been in a bit of a financial pickle for awhile).

The mission for this year 'Sacrifice', lived up to it's name.  In 5 sessions running the mission, the marines weren't able to complete the mission for a marine win.  But alas, this is what I was shotting for.  I just remember seeing the box for the first time and thinking, 'Hmm, desperate battle..'
This mission was built just to put the ol 'Aliens' feeling of "Game over man, game over!", and I think it suceeded.  I'll have the mission documentation up by tomorrow, so look for that, along with some product reviews from my purchases, and lots more pictures!  Stay tuned folks.

OMG! Did he croak or something?!?

Nope, not at all!  Still here and kicking.  Work has been completely upside down, so alot of my time has been consumed by that.  To the IT peeps out there, we just finished a virtualization project converting 50 physical IBM xSeries servers into VMware virtual machines.  Talk about a handfull of work!

Everything is set for my upcoming Gencon 2010 sessions.  Below is a rundown of my Space Hulk games...

Crazy thing...you would think that with the release of 3.0 almost a year ago, there would have been a few more games.....  Nada.  Besides my games there are 3 other's.....????

Been giving the new mission for Gencon a couple of run-thru's and revisions.  As you can see by the pic, it's not your regular type mission...

And yes, those are Chaos Terminators of Nurgle...

Mission: Paranoia

Last Thursday night was our first playtest of one of many Gotthammer missions we've been lucky to get ahold of!

After a quick setup of the gameboard, we proceeded to battle!!

The Terra Knight's arrayed and proceed into the Hulk, ready to sacrifice themselves getting to the lower level, and slaying the Magus there!  It's presence caused the Marine player to possibly re-roll their CP draw, which made for a interesting game change.

The marines proceed to make their way thru the first level, with only the lose of one marine.

After reaching the 2nd level, the marines are lulled into a sense of ease as they see the entrance to the 3rd level, and their objective, directly in front of them....But enemies close from all sides, making their progress slow to say the least.

Progress is slow, and 3 more marines fall to the claws of the genestealers!  The sole survivor, the squads Sargent, makes a final run to leave the deathtrap that is the 2nd level...

The Sarg makes a desperate run to his objective, taunting him, but a minion takes him out in a final attack.  The marines made a heroic attempt, but the objective was denied.

A very enjoyable mission.  All the players commented on it's enjoyability and compact design, taking a little over a hour to run.  A def. thumbs up to Gotthammer on a well designed mission, and we look forward to another of his missions this coming Thursday!

Soul Drinkers Terminator Squad Commision

Here's the squad of Soul Drinkers I've painted up for a friend of mine.  It's also a demonstration of my super awesome craft skills with my homemade photo box If you think that's bad, you should have seen the first one!)

I took a bit of artistic license on the color scheme, but I think they didn't come out  too bad.  I would have de-angeled them, but I figured what the heck.

Knowledge is Power

Welp, last week we ran the 'Bringer of Sorrow' campaign mission 'Knowledge is Power'

The Terra Knights and Space Wolves made a valiant stand against the hordes of Genestealers, but in the end, the mighty had fallen to the swift claws of the Tyranids.  BTW, if anyone is interested in the player made missions shown in any of my posts, send me a email and I'll send ya a copy (These were all hosted on Board Game Geeks before the wrath of GW struck)

Creating your own Space Marine chapter

Stumbled across this series of articles today.  Being someone that created their own Space Marine chapter around 1995, and loving player created work, I thought I'd share this.

Designing a chapter

Have a Awesome weekend everyone!

Ouchers...

Sometimes, taking a closeup of yer newest paint job brings out all the errors.  Was going to submit this to a contest, but I'm thinking maybe not now.  Oh well, I still have a blast painting.

Running Code Name Overhead v 1.1

Another Thursday night running a Space Hulk mission at the Gamerz store. Since the last time we played we ran the first part of this campaign, 'Code Name Blue Screen', we decided to give the mission a shot. 2 players running Space Marines (Blood Angels & Space Wolves) and 2 other's running the Genestealers. The mission was a definite change from the first part, that was strongly favoring the Space Marines (Long hallways for the Stealers to traverse). This mission was cool from the random events that were rolled for after the 6th turn. The dice roles brought a Librarian, Flamer and Broodlord onto the board, which made thing's quite interesting, to say the least. In the end the Stealers were victorious! Also, you can see some 'warpage' on some of the tiles which I am trying to fix with little luck.
