Come Get Some!!

Random image from the Starbase Indy Convention at the lovely Marriot at 21st and Shadeland. Just a quick 5 minute trip for me, and alot of my types of conventions take place here. The games worked out great, 6 sessions of the 'Multiplayer Mission' that remains in the 'File' section of BBG.

During one session the 4 marine players were all from one family!  Sorry Mom, didn't mean to have you not in-frame.

Wow, this is relly sad...

Well, after spending a great thanksgiving with my family, I awake this morning to this sad news...

Looking at the Files page for Space Hulk 3rd Edition it looks like a majority of files were removed very recently. These were fan created files included many files for the Tilesystem program, log books for SH sessions, and even alternate counters for chaos squads. I can understand somewhat the reasoning for protecting IP, but overall this will make many people sour in regards to GW products. Hopefully the content I put on this page won't be stifled with this new judgment.

I Got Married!

Yup, believe it or not, I finally tied the knot with my gal Angie! We are in New Orleans right now, and just got back from a very cool cemetery tour.

But Chris, this hasn't anything to do with Space Hulk?!?

Ok...ya got me there. Well, we will be running a 6 player mission at StarBase Indy, November 27-29. You can find more information here. The mission is called 'Purification', and it will be sort of a large scale 'Cleanse and Burn' scenario. I wanted to make it simple for new players to get thier feet wet.

So Chris, where have ya been?...

Well, busy busy busy! My wedding is coming up this weekend, Oct 31st! Yup, Halloween (I won't be able to easily forget it). Besides that I've been working on...

- My New Space Wolf Terminator squad.
- New conversions of old bitz (My first attempt).
- New Replacement for my Blood Angels squad leader (Pics to be here soon).
- New Ultramarine Squad from SH 3rd edition conversions.
- New multi-squad mission for the upcoming Starbase Indy Con.

At Gamerz on 10/08/2009

Here's a shot of the custom board created by Gamerz in Greenwood. Blood Angels and Terra Knights try to retrieve a C.A.T and get it off the board.

New Space Wolf Terminator boxed set

Here is a 'what you see is what you get' with the new Space Wolf Terminator boxed set. Now to try and figure out how to arm my new squad to use them in as many 3rd edition missions as possible. This was another 'Declined' image from BBG.

Litko Flame markers during play.

I was asked to post a picture showing the Litko Flame markers in play, so here it is. I attempted to post this to BBG, but was declined.

Keeping your pieces organized.

Sorry for the absence of posts, but between work and 3rd edition, I've been pretty busy. Here's a shot of a $2.00 box I picked up at Hobby Lobby that I keep all my markers for 2 SH sets...

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Oh Yah!!!!

Yup, showed up yesterday! All I can say is wow! The tile graphics are beautiful, and the models...Some of the best I've ever seen. Take note: When de-spruing your terminators, look for the small round tabs. They are numbered so you won't get the pieces mixed up. I didn't realize it till I had already done 2 termi's, and had to keep looking at the pictures to sort out what parts wen't with what. Some of the models have tiny parts, so be careful when cutting them off the sprues. Just wish they had done the same with the genestealer models.
I do like that they included misc. models (C.A.T., dead space marine in a throne, Chalice. Nice additions to my ever growing terrain pieces. The manual is top notch, but I wish there was a bit more 'flavor'. Maybe a short story, but I guess that's because of the SH novel.
The doors are relly nice, varied graphics, and some pretty awesome stands. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with the 40 Litko doors I purchased right before Gencon.
I've read the rulebook, and after giving it another once over I'll post my thought's.

New storage trays just for Space Hulk

Sheesh

Well, I did preorder my copy of Space Hulk the day it was announced. Long story short, it's here in Indianapolis at the Fedex location, but won't get here till Monday. Dang, that would have been my whole weekend! *sigh*

Space Hulk 3rd Edition!!!

My thoughts on 3rd Edition Space Hulk
Likes:

- Awesome models. Not too sure about the non-standard bases, if one was to call them that. I like that they are using new models, both on the Space Marine and Genestealer side.
- New tiles. And they even look like they will work with the old tiles. A boon for me since I've never picked up multiple sets.
- Entry point markers. Great idea, but I'll most likely replace mine with Litko ones.

Dislikes:

- No 3D terrain. I know it would have made the set at least twice as much, but I was still hoping. I'm working on my own set. More info on those to come!
- 1st edition Flamer rules. Common guys, make up your mind. I'll be using 2nd edition rules for this.
- Sand timer? Too small to see across a table, and I have my own digital one in the works.

Overall I am excited, just over the attention & intrest the new release will create. The BBG boards are lit up like a xmas tree!

OMG! This stuff is insane!

I'll tell ya one thing...If you need to strip paint from miniatures, this stuff is the sh*t!

Dropped in some used Chaos Termi's, and 24 hours later....Walaa!! I found this at Home Depot for under $3.00

WooT!!!!!

Well, another year has come to pass, but all I can say is I HAD A BLAST! Was able to get into Troy and John's Gencon session, and actually completed the mission!!

Yes, my camera still sucks! One day!

Update: BTW, I think the 2 cases I had this con of minis falling off thier bases had alot to do with me leaving them in the truck during the hot day...

Tile System

Hey, wanna check out a cool program if you like to create your own maps? Check out Tile System! It comes with tiles for Doom, but can easily be used for Space Hulk. As soon as I find a easy way to do it, I'll share the tiles I've had a try at.

I like this....Thought I'd share

2 weeks.....!!!!

Good lord, how time flies when yer planning fun! The games at Gamerz have been going great, and Josh, Travis, Joe and Chris managed to score the first big win for the Terminators! Well done lads! Running a 4 person game can be a bit of work, to say the least. I think I may be scraping a 2 level game for this year. My try at making something stable completely flopped, so that may have to wait till I can come up with something. The mission seems to be on-cue for about 3 hours, need to spread it out to at least 30-60 more minutes.

Today, finishing up some bitz made hybrids from a couple of genestealers I found w/o arms. Used a bolter and claw combo on one, a bolter and hand on the other.

And the Dance continues...

Sorry for no recent posts, the 30 day mark hit for Gencon, and I'm running amok with last minute thing's. The sessions at Gamerz have been a hoot, with the Genestealers dominating all the missions. I play tested my mission for GC, and with a bit of tweaking I will have it 95% complete. Now my big issue is with my 2nd level. I created a board and was using heavy mailing tubes for legs. Unfortunately it's a bit unstable, so I may have to use a heavier/more solid setup. I still have a few miniatures that need a bit of sprusing up, but I did manage to make a couple of cryotubes holding captive marines that came out a bit better than I tought it would. Pictures to come soon!

Inconjunction 2009

Well, sorry for no updates from last week. I'll see what I have in regards to a report for July 2nd at Gamerz. We did play 2 missions, Suicide and Break Thru. The Genestealers won both sessions, with Josh doing a great job against my relentless hordes!

My saturday session at Inconjunction almost didn't happen. Note: Scifi & Fantasy conventions ARE NOT like Gencon. After waiting around for a hour to see if anyone would show any intrest, I decided to head to the dealers area and check it out. Apon my return to the gaming area, someone from the Battletech game that was in the same room as me, said a few people had said they would love to play! I found the 2 gentlemen and I threw together a quick map (I had forgotten my 'Book' at home, ouch) and we got to buisness. Well, I underestimated there wiliness, they were able to complete the mission with 2 marines alive! Well done!

Now I'm busying myself trying out a few painting techniques I've read up on. One being 'Dipping', the other a noxious rust concoction that looks relly nice. Unfortunately my camera isn't even acting right taking anything closeup. I have to get a decent camera soon!

My name in lights...

Submitted a question to 'The Painting Corps' couple of weeks ago and guess what...My question got picked!! It's about highlighting, something I'm trying to get a handle on. 6 posts so far, and some great info. Check it out.
My 2 games were accepted to Inconjunction, so I'm gearing up for that. Troy sent me a .jpg of the map he used for last years Gencon session, but having a bit of issues trying to get it printed out, even on a E sized plotter. The actual image is 100" long, so the driver software is having issues trying to get it all. I'll figure something out.

Gamerz June 25th Report

We had a great game Thursday night at Gamerz in Greenwood. Josh and his buddy (Sorry, I am so bad with names) were in attendance, so I decided to subject them to the 'Cleanse & Burn' mission. Here are a few pictures. Unfortunately I had my camera in macro mode for the first 8 shots, so they were unusable. I also need to write down some of the major points of the session, for my memory blows. The top pick is the Terra Knights Squad leader going mono-a-mono (The Stealer won that fight). The bottom is the final turn after one of the rooms had been cleaned, and the final flamer was the last marine! Good show by the Terra Knights! Huzzah!!!

Tonight at Gamerz!!

Tonights the night I start my hopefully running stint of Space Hulk Games at the Gamerz store in Greenwood! I'm stoked! I got everything together last night, and thank goodness my order from Litko came in! WooHoo! Sweet Flamer markers and overwatch markers. They are right here from Indiana, and have great communication with thier customers.
I'm going to run the mission Cleanse and Burn. I'll be using a squad from the 1st founding of the Terra Knights and another from the 2nd. I have a idea of the backstory of the chapter, but need to fleash out a few thing's first. Look for more to come.
I'll also be having a recount of tonights game with pictures! Hopefully those will be up tomorrow.

And even more work...

Well, sorry for the lack of posts, but thing's have relly started to pick up around here. My horde of Genestealers are playable, but still need work. Need to count them up to see how many I actually have (More than 30 for sure). The Terra Knights are table quality, but I know I'll be picking at them for at least a couple more day's. Another standard squad is in the works.
I'll be running a weekly Space Hulk game every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Gamerz store in Greenwood. I had a few people express intrest on the KFG boards, so hopefully this will work out well, stir up some interest, and maybe turn into a tournament!!
I also submitted 2 events for Inconjunction on Saturday at 12:00 and 8:00 p.m. Hopefully I'll hear back soon from them so I can get started on the plans for that.
So, in short......whew! And I sit here typing when I should be werkin...!

Finally back from out of town...

...but most the time I was hashing out specifics for the sessions. Right now I have 3 Space hulk, 1 Trailer Park Wars, and 1 Killer Bunnies games I'm running this year at Gencon. The rest of the time I'll be helping out running demo's of Redneck Life and Trailer Park Wars for Gut Bustin Games. It's getting close and I'm fired up!

Some pics....

So, now back to buisness....

Sorry for the long delay in posting. I've been super busy painting, designing, imagining, planning and relaxing. My Genestealers are pretty much 95% done, and my termi's are about 75%. I found out my cheap digital camera dosen't take pictures worth a hoot, so I'm borrowing a co-workers and will be taking some shots here during lunch. I'll finally be able to show off my so called work!
I've also submitted another Wednesday Space Hulk game for Gencon. It's still in the submittal stage, so more to come on that. I figured if they don't I'll still run it, there should be enough people wandering around to check it out.
My current plans are a dual level game. It'll be my first try, but if my plans come to fruition it should be very cool. I'm going to forego using shaft rules and make both levels completely seperate from each other, connected by lifts. I'll need to start thinking about AP's to use it, how many it will hold, stealer entry point around the lift (I wan't the players to relly have to struggle to get up, squad being divided up in transit)

My first test of creating my own floor tiles came out pretty good. Only 2 issues I ran into was..
1) Scanner in copy mode reduced the copies size just about 1/32". Ya relly have to look to see the difference.
2) The notches needed to be worked on for a bit before they worked. Wish I had a big O' press to cut them out with.

More to come latter, and pics also!!

Monday, May 25, 2009

Genestealers

Well, I'm about 85% done with my 30+ Genestealers painting wise.  I'll post pics as soon as I can get my camera to take decent macro shots.

Today's the Day!!

4) Finish laying out scanned tiles for gameboard
5) Start plotline/storyline for both games
6) Continue to panic!

Illusions of Grandeur

Welp, in starting to plan out my first GM'ing of a Space Hulk game I decided to find out how hard it will be to have custom tiles made up for my game. I fortunately found out that the print shop in the HS can do something very cool....using a laser to print things onto certain materials. Could I possibly hope to have some of these made up for me by them.....maybe out of wood!! Hard to tell how much this will set me back (Hopefully just materials), but the outcome could be very sweet! I'm supposed to speak to the teacher that runs this class tomorrow to get some specifics.....I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

New Space Hulk coming!?!?

Rumors abound of a new version of Space Hulk being released by Games Workshops here in September of 2009. I haven't personally seen any creditable press releases or such, but I can only hope GW has realised the hidden market of this game.
Hopefully they'll see the obvious benefit of moving the release date to August. I'd love to see this at this years GenCon!

Great Space Hulk GM stuff....

This site has some great items I'd luv purchase before the con....

Wish I could decide on the whole 3-D thing. I may be getting ahead of myself for my first time out.

Fun with Cookies!!

And now for some other craziness I was exposed too at Who's Yer Con...

Same concept as the game you played as a child, but with a twisted side!  Battle cookie a' cookie as you blow the limbs off yer opponent's gingerbread men!  I had the bonus of having real stuffed gingerbread men with velcro limbs!!  A true hoot!!

Now THIS game is fun!!

I fortunately attended Who's Yer Con this year and twas exposed to THE TOTALLY INSANE CARD GAME.

A great party game with rules along the lines of uno, with some interesting twists and turns.  Unfortunately you won't find this one anywhere but online.

Alway's on the lookout for something new...

This looks like something I'm going to keep my eye's open for.
